I personally like to add gathering, or shirring to styles. it is a way to add extra dimension and also substitute darts on occassion (more on that to come later). Many of the SBCC style incorporate gathering. For most sewers, adding a single line of basting thread seems sufficient, but for maximum control and a better end result follow the guidelines.
